A recent article by Intelligent Enterprise discusses the rapid adoption of Enterprise Content Management (ECM) software. This should come as no surprise to those of us who have encountered various content management strategies during our careers.
It’s interesting how often ECM is confused with structured authoring and single sourcing. As a writer, I’ve been told that SharePoint is going to solve all of my single sourcing requirements. I guess we still have some educating to do.
The growth of ECM creates some interesting opportunities for technical communicators to showcase some information management skills and take advantage of some of the new hybrid authoring/information management positions. Interesting times!
