That’s the question this article examines. Like the author of the piece, I believe that technical writing is a career — a career that can be interesting and rewarding. But it’s definitely not a calling
I look at a calling as something that has the potential to help make the world a better place. And technical writing doesn’t fit that bill. Neither do most other jobs out there. But that doesn’t mean technical writing isn’t worth doing — it most definitely is.

1I agree completely. Most IT jobs are not vocations, they are just jobs. Sure you might impact a lot of people but in a very transient way.
Teachers, firemen, nurses etc.. they are the people who respond to a calling, they are the ones who have a vocation.

2I think all this is very subjective. All i know is if your work is your hobby then u will never work a Day in your life.. That holds true for me in my current position as a Linux System Administrator, when i was a “window” cleaner i was working.
